Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has rejected any suggestion that former Kano State governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje holds sway over his administration, declaring that he operates independently and remains the leading political authority in the state.

Speaking amid growing political tension in Kano, Yusuf said that leadership in the state rests with those currently entrusted with the mandate of the people. His remarks appear to respond to perceived attempts by Ganduje and allies within the All Progressives Congress to influence the political direction of the state.

Governor Yusuf, who came to power under the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, stated his commitment to carrying out his administration’s agenda without external interference. He added that Kano’s governance would not be directed by former officeholders or opposition figures, regardless of their political standing.

The situation highlights the ongoing rivalry between the ruling NNPP in Kano and the APC, a party that previously controlled the state under Ganduje’s leadership. Political observers say such exchanges reflect continuing struggles for control and influence ahead of future elections.

Yusuf’s position shows his intent to maintain authority and independence, while reinforcing his role as the central figure in Kano’s current leadership. As tensions continue, residents and stakeholders will watch how the evolving dynamics affect governance and political stability in the state.
