Two Young Members of Boko Haram Surrender to Nigerian Army

by admin

Two young individuals, Bana Modu, aged 13, and Abubakar Mohammed, also known as Garba, aged 19, reportedly gave themselves up to Nigerian military forces in Borno State. They were skilled in crafting makeshift explosive devices (IEDs) and chose to abandon their mission of planting IEDs near Doron Baga and Fish Dam. Instead, they fled with the explosives and turned themselves in to the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in Monguno. This surrender occurred on April 21, 2024, marking a significant achievement in the ongoing effort to dismantle Boko Haram’s activities in the region.

During initial questioning, Mohammed and Modu confessed to their involvement in terrorist activities and disclosed their orders to plant IEDs in specific locations. However, they opted to surrender after being influenced by the MNJTF’s recent Operation NASHRUL SALAM, which emphasized non-kinetic operations and personal engagement strategies with relevant sources. As a result of their surrender, two IEDs, two mobile phones, and 53,000 Naira were recovered from them. This event highlights the MNJTF’s commitment to encouraging other terrorists in the Lake Chad Islands to lay down their arms and pursue peace. The MNJTF continues to prioritize its mission of restoring peace and normalcy to the Lake Chad Basin region.
