In a recent press briefing in Owerri, Prince Maduba Chukwudi Francis, widely known as OluImo and a prominent aspirant for Uwaorie Councilorship, has vehemently condemned the widespread destruction of crops and plants in Agwa communities by Fulani herdsmen. Expressing deep dissatisfaction, OluImo highlighted the insensitivity of those who, in the pursuit of their own business, wreak havoc on the livelihoods of others.
OluImo’s condemnation comes at a critical time when the nation faces severe food insecurity. He emphasized that such malicious actions are not only unreasonable but also exacerbate the already precarious food situation in Nigeria. “At this period of food insecurity in our nation, it is completely unreasonable for people to cause such malicious damage to livelihoods,” he stated.
In his address, OluImo called on key government figures, including President Bola Tinubu and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, to urgently address the situation. He urged them to take swift action to prevent potential violent clashes between the affected communities and the herdsmen. “To avert a bloody clash between the community and the herdsmen, it is imperative that the government intervenes promptly and ensures that compensations are made to the affected farmers,” OluImo asserted.
Additionally, OluImo appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide immediate aid to the affected communities. He stressed the need for emergency food supplies to cushion the impact of the destruction on the local farmers and their families. “The National Emergency Management Agency should come to the communities’ aid with food supplies to mitigate the effects of the destruction,” he added.
OluImo’s call to action underscores the urgent need for a comprehensive response from both state and federal authorities. The destruction of crops not only threatens the food security of the region but also undermines the economic stability of the affected communities. By addressing the issue promptly and effectively, the government can help restore hope and stability to the beleaguered farmers of Agwa.
As the situation develops, all eyes will be on the response of the government and relevant agencies to this pressing issue. The call for compensation and aid highlights the importance of protecting the livelihoods of farmers and ensuring the sustainable development of rural communities across Nigeria.
