Residents of a community in Rivers State have rescued a 6-month-old baby and apprehended two women accused of attempting to abduct the child.
According to the baby’s mother, she had briefly left home to buy food, leaving the infant in the care of her two sons. While she was away, her eldest son reportedly informed her that two unfamiliar women had entered their room. Initially thinking the child was mistaken, she paid little attention to the report but later decided to return home.
Upon getting back, the mother discovered that her baby was missing and immediately raised an alarm. During the search, a resident reportedly informed her that two women had been seen carrying a baby towards a waiting motorcycle.
The alarm prompted swift action from community members, who quickly mobilised and intercepted the suspects before they could leave the area. The baby was successfully rescued unharmed, while the two women were apprehended by residents.
The incident has generated concern among residents, who are calling on security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction attempt and ensure that justice is served.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident as investigations continue.
