The Imo State Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, has launched a comprehensive agricultural empowerment initiative aimed at addressing food insecurity and boosting economic growth in the state. The program specifically targets youths, women, and students, providing them with practical training and support to actively engage in modern agriculture.

The Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, Chief Cosmos Maduba, made this known during a three-day seminar and training workshop held at Rockview Hotel, Owerri. The event, themed “2025 Imo Women and Youths Agricultural Support Programme,” was organized in collaboration with the Renewed Hope Initiative, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, and the Imo State Government.

According to Chief Maduba, participants of the program will not only receive technical training but also be empowered with vital agricultural inputs such as improved seedlings, fertilizers, and financial assistance. These support packages will be officially distributed on Friday, May 16, 2025, at the Admiral Ndubuisi Kalu Centre (Heroes Square), Owerri.

The Commissioner emphasized that the primary objective of the initiative is to enhance food production, create employment opportunities, and promote sustainable development. He encouraged citizens to make use of available land resources for farming, noting that agriculture is both a reliable food source and a viable economic opportunity.

Chief Maduba also stressed the government’s commitment to making agriculture attractive and accessible to all. He stated that by empowering citizens through agriculture, the state can reduce poverty, curb social vices, and ensure long-term food security.

He concluded by urging all beneficiaries to apply the skills and resources they have acquired during the training to launch or expand their farming ventures. This, he said, would not only improve individual livelihoods but also contribute to the broader economic and social wellbeing of communities across Imo State.
