Imo: Minimum Wage increment will motivate workers – Okolieogwo

Hon. Willie TC Okolieogwo who is the Special Adviser to His Excellency, Governor Hope Uzodimma, on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, has said that the Minimum Wage increment for public workers in Imo State will motivate them to work be dutiful and productive.

He stated this in an interview with journalists in Owerri, recently.

Okolieogwo who was the immediate past Chairman of Oru West LGA and Imo State Chairman of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), firmly observed that the feat by the Governor was a milestone, which he added would not only spur the public workers to be more efficient, committed and productive, but advances the state’s economy.

He said the Minimum Wage increment is indeed a mark of love for humanity and passion for excellence by the Governor, who he described as visionary, ideal and fantastic.

“The big increase on Minimum Wage for public workers in Imo State is motivating. This feat will always motivate the workers to be more efficient and productive, as well as remain very strong, respectful and disciplined, thereby strengthening the economy of the state.

“The #104,000 Minimum Wage increment has made Imo State one of the highest- paying employers in the public sector. Medical Doctors’ Entry-level pay is now ₦508,000 with a maximum of ₦1.2 million monthly. The Lecturers Entry-level pay is now ₦222,000 with a maximum of ₦812,000 monthly. Teachers’ entry-level pay is now ₦104,000, with a maximum of ₦441,000 monthly. This is a milestone. It is very encouraging, enriching and applauding”, Okolieogwo highlighted.

Okolieogwo who has been playing vital role in ensuring that the APC and 3R administration succeeds more in advancing democratic governance and goodness for all Imo breeds, emphasized that retirees had also been made happy with an allocation of #16 billion by the government to clear outstanding gratuity arrears of pensioners, covering over 5,700 retirees across state and local government levels.

Okolieogwo, a pragmatic leader, administrator per excellence and friendly politician, advised the workers to often work optimally to enable them add to the development of the state.

He lauded Governor Hope Uzodimma for extending kindness to the workers, assessing him as a democratic leader who exudes benevolence, chivalry, empathy, goodness and godliness.
