…Building a stronger party foundation to secure Imo’s political future.
By Douglas Princemola
The All Progressives Congress APC in Imo State has highlighted its internal cohesion, grassroots resilience, and strategic preparedness as it positions itself for upcoming political events. This strong stance comes under the leadership of Governor Hope Uzodimma and the party chairman, Sir MacDonald Ebere.
Speaking during a media engagement in Owerri, Hon Iyke Umeh, the State Organizing Secretary and National Coordinator of APC Organizing Secretaries nationwide, expressed confidence in the party’s steady growth and unity. According to Umeh, the Imo APC has maintained its structural integrity and continues to strengthen its political machinery across all levels from local wards to the state executive.
The APC in Imo State has evolved into a disciplined political institution guided by internal democracy, strategic planning, and collective focus. Under Governor Uzodimma’s leadership and Chairman Ebere’s inclusive approach, we have built a culture of harmony and purpose that sets us apart, Umeh said.
A participatory leadership model championed by Chairman Ebere has been central to this transformation. Umeh said all executive members are actively involved in decision making, which has reduced factional disputes and boosted grassroots loyalty. This openness and inclusiveness have deepened the sense of belonging among party members and strengthened the foundation at the grassroots level, he added.
Reflecting on his personal political journey, Umeh recounted his move from the People’s Democratic Party PDP, where he served as State Auditor and earned recognition as the Best Auditor in 2014, to his current role within the APC. His public service background, including a tenure as Commissioner for Science and Technology, has equipped him with insights useful for strengthening the party’s internal structures and outreach strategies.
As the National Coordinator of APC Organizing Secretaries across Nigeria, Umeh stressed the importance of grassroots mobilization, effective internal communication, and alignment with national directives. He said the Imo APC’s consistent adherence to these principles has made it one of the most organized and stable state chapters in the federation.
Recently, the Imo APC Working Committee undertook a statewide tour covering all zones of the state. Umeh described this exercise as a key step towards consolidating the party’s structures, engaging directly with grassroots leaders, and implementing directives from the national leadership, including those of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The tour also aligned with the extension of the party convention timeline, emphasizing readiness and unity.
During the tour, party leaders engaged in open discussions with ward and local government executives, who raised operational and welfare concerns. Umeh revealed that the party leadership responded promptly by supporting individual members through initiatives such as funding medical treatment for a sick party member in Njaba, assisting with gratuity processing in Aboh Mbaise, and facilitating insurance levy payments for officers in Owerri West. These actions show the APC’s commitment to solidarity, responsibility, and people-centered governance.
Umeh described the Imo APC as more than a political party it is a growing movement driven by a shared vision, unity of purpose, and political strategy. We are prepared to face upcoming electoral challenges with confidence, building on past successes and strong alignment with both state and national government agendas, he said.
In closing, Hon Iyke Umeh expressed optimism about the future of the APC in Imo State. With Governor Uzodimma providing strong governance leadership and Chairman Ebere effectively managing party affairs, the APC is positioned to remain the dominant political force in the state.
Our strength lies in unity, strategic planning, and a relentless focus on the welfare of our members. We are not just preparing for elections; we are laying the foundation for a lasting political legacy that will benefit Imo State for generations to come, Umeh affirmed.
