The Rivers State House of Assembly has firmly stated that the impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy remains active and has not been suspended, contrary to widespread speculation and reports circulating in some quarters.
According to the Assembly, all impeachment proceedings are being carried out strictly in line with constitutional provisions. Lawmakers emphasized that the notices of allegations of gross misconduct have already been duly served on the governor and his deputy, marking a formal step in the process. They dismissed claims suggesting that the exercise had been halted or put on hold, describing such reports as misleading and unfounded.
The Assembly further clarified that the impeachment process is a legislative responsibility that cannot be influenced or stopped by political pressure, negotiations, or external interference.
