The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State has strongly condemned the reported destruction and removal of campaign billboards bearing the image of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu across parts of the state, describing the incidents as unacceptable and politically motivated.
In a statement released on Friday, the party’s state chapter expressed outrage over what it termed a coordinated act of vandalism targeting promotional materials mounted in strategic locations, including the state capital, Gusau. The APC warned that such actions threaten democratic values and could heighten political tension if not urgently addressed.
The party’s Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, said the destruction of the billboards represents an attack not only on the APC but also on the constitutional rights of citizens to freely associate and express political support. He described the situation as “deeply troubling” and cautioned against acts capable of undermining peace and stability in the state.
According to the APC, the alleged vandalism may have been carried out by individuals seeking to suppress opposition voices. The party called on security agencies to investigate the incidents thoroughly, bring perpetrators to justice, and ensure adequate protection of political materials and public property.
The development comes amid growing political activity in Zamfara, as parties begin early mobilization efforts ahead of future electoral contests. Observers note that heightened political rivalry in the state has recently contributed to increased tensions between stakeholders.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the Zamfara State Government regarding the allegations. Political analysts have urged restraint from all sides, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and adherence to democratic norms to prevent further escalation.
