ADC Moves to Build Consensus Ahead of Presidential Candidate Selection

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has begun strategic consultations aimed at reaching a unified decision on its presidential candidate, as preparations gradually intensify for the next general election cycle. According to party chieftain Abdullahi Abdullahi, the leadership is deliberately pursuing a consensus-driven approach to avoid internal divisions and strengthen party cohesion.

Abdullahi explained that rather than engaging in a potentially contentious primary contest, the party is prioritizing dialogue, negotiation, and alignment among its stakeholders. This process involves consultations with key party figures across different regions, ensuring that any eventual candidate enjoys broad-based support within the party structure.

The move reflects a growing trend in Nigerian politics, where parties sometimes adopt consensus arrangements to prevent post-primary conflicts and factional disputes. By rallying members around a single candidate early, ADC hopes to present a united front capable of competing more effectively on the national stage.

Although no aspirant has yet been officially endorsed, the ongoing discussions signal the party’s commitment to strategic planning and internal stability. Political observers believe that if successfully executed, this consensus-building effort could enhance ADC’s credibility and improve its chances in what is expected to be a highly competitive election.
