Under the command of Director of Army Public Relations Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Nigerian armed forces have disclosed significant accomplishments in their ongoing campaign against the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) and their JAS associates in the northeastern region of Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the headquarters of the armed forces revealed that units from the 7th Division, stationed in Maiduguri, Borno State, successfully eradicated five terrorists and freed 78 women and children who had been abducted across six villages.

According to Major General Nwachukwu, the units conducted an assertive clearance operation on Friday, methodically clearing areas where terrorists had sought shelter with their captives.

“During the operation, our forces engaged the terrorists in fierce combat, resulting in the elimination of five militants. Additionally, 78 individuals, including 35 women and 43 children, were liberated from the clutches of the terrorists,” he affirmed.

The villages cleared by the units include Ngurusoye, Sabon Gari, Mairamri 1 and 2, Bula Dalo, and Bula Dalo extension, along with the Yamanci and Gargaji general areas. Recovered items included a terrorist flag and a mobile phone belonging to the insurgents. The rescued individuals are currently undergoing preliminary investigation and profiling.

The armed forces remain resolute in their commitment to maintaining the momentum of Operation Desert Sanity III, aimed at eliminating terrorists and insurgents from the northeastern region of Nigeria.
