Amid jubilations, commendations and echoes of encouragements, Pharm. Mrs. Mbachu Edith Chikamnele, on Sunday, October 20, bagged the ‘2024 Best HOD Award’ from the reputable Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), the Imo State Chapter, drawing participants into admirations.
Pharm. Mbachu, who is also the Head, Department of Pharmacy, Federal Polytechnic Nekede, (FEDPONEK) Owerri, received the honour during the 2024 Annual Conference/Pharmacy Week of the Imo State PSN; an event that drew pharmacists within and outside the state in attendance among others personalities, while featuring various programmes, including lectures and award presentations among other activities.
Fielding questions from newsmen at the event, Pharm. Mbachu, disclosed that her engagement at the FEDPONEK has helped her to impact her office and the workers around positively, referring to the grace of God as the power behind her strength, exploits and successes, including the celebrated success of the 2024 Annual Conference/Pharmacy Week which she served as the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Chairman.
In her statement: “I derive my aspirations and purpose for life looking on God to see why He created me and to see how I can fulfill that purpose. So, I try always to follow a purpose-drive life by asking why am here? Where did I come from? And where am I going after this life; as well as whom do I want to please?” She thanked God for making the conference a huge success despite the present challenges in the country.
“I always rely on Jesus Christ who strengthens me according to Philippians 4:13. When God is with you, success is assured. In the case of this conference, I called on him and he touched the hearts of people to help us because I could not have achieved this feat on my own. So, I give him all the glory.”
She further noted that the conference brought great impacts to her through various activities, adding that theme of the event: “Pharmacy: Innovating Advanced Universal and Holistic Healthcare,” was apt in exposing the pharmacists and other participants to the need of prioritizing all aspects of life; physically, spiritually, financially and otherwise, adding that the lectures, recreational activities, business summit among others did justice to the Pharmacy Week.
Reflecting on her Award, Pharm. Mbachu, posited that for results to be achieved, a leader should exhibit professionalism as well as show empathy to the subordinates. She added that through such dispositions, the person in leadership position would not only demonstrate capacity and perform well, but also motivate others to be at their best towards achieving efficient service delivery.
“The truth is that a leader needs to be empathetic and to show good examples. Think for others, help them do what they cannot do for themselves that you have capacity to do. It will cost you nothing. When I came to the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, there were no pharmacists, but today, we are eight in number, working assiduously to move the place forward,” she added.
She, however, enjoined members of the profession to strive always to uphold their mandate of protecting human life, while being patient’s oriented and focused. According to her, achieving such would require them to look steadily on God in order to draw the grace to do good, she noted, while appreciating all who contributed variously towards making the conference a success.
