The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has raised concerns over the continued use of security votes by state governors, questioning the effectiveness of the funds in addressing Nigeria’s growing insecurity challenges.

The association noted that despite substantial allocations for security across states, many communities continue to grapple with kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery, and other violent crimes. According to the NBA, the persistent security threats have fueled public concerns about how security funds are being managed and utilized.

Calling for greater transparency and accountability, the NBA urged government officials to ensure that resources earmarked for security are properly monitored and directed toward measures that deliver real protection for citizens.

The association said Nigerians deserve to see tangible results from security spending, noting that accountability in the use of public funds is essential to strengthening trust in government and improving the nation’s security system.

The NBA’s position has reignited discussions on the need for reforms in the management of security votes, with many stakeholders advocating stricter oversight to ensure that funds allocated for security contribute to safeguarding lives and property across the country.
