OluImo Blasts Imo State House of Assembly for Leaving Four Constituencies Without Representation for Six Months

by admin

Prince Maduba Chukwudi Francis, popularly known as OluImo, has criticized the actions of the 10th Imo State House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe, accusing them of undemocratic and uncivil practices. His strong remarks come in response to the continued suspension of four lawmakers, which has left their constituencies without representation for over five months.

In a statement, OluImo expressed deep concern about the ongoing political turmoil within the assembly, particularly the manner in which the suspended members were removed without any verifiable evidence to support the allegations against them. On July 2nd, 2023, four members of the Imo State House of Assembly were suspended over claims that they were involved in a plot to impeach the speaker. However, despite the gravity of the accusations, the assembly has failed to provide any substantial proof to justify these suspensions, leaving a cloud of uncertainty over their actions.

OluImo condemned the situation, labeling it as a direct violation of democratic principles. He pointed out that it is utterly undemocratic for four constituencies to be left without representation for such an extended period of time, with no clear resolution in sight. He emphasized that such a power vacuum is harmful to the democratic process and undermines the very essence of governance, which is to serve the people and ensure their voices are heard in legislative matters.

“It is undemocratic that four state constituencies will be left without representation for six months. It is high time for the governor to intervene and hold the leadership of the House accountable for this unproductive and unjust conduct,” OluImo stated.

The renowned activist further criticized the leadership of the assembly for what he described as a lack of seriousness and professionalism. He accused the current lawmakers of turning the assembly into a “playground,” where frivolous decisions and political infighting take precedence over the real work of governance. OluImo’s comments reflect growing public frustration with the assembly’s actions, which have only served to deepen political instability in the state.

The suspension of the four lawmakers has sparked widespread debate in Imo State, with many questioning the motives behind the move. Critics argue that it reflects a dangerous trend of political oppression and manipulation, where those who challenge the status quo are punished without due process. Some have even suggested that the leadership of the assembly is using its power to suppress dissent and maintain control, rather than work towards the greater good of the state.

In response to these developments, OluImo has called on the governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, to take decisive action. He urged the governor to intervene in order to restore order, transparency, and accountability to the legislative process. “It is laughable and a mockery of democracy in Imo State that the assembly members have turned governance into a joke. The time has come for those in power to be held accountable for their actions,” he added.

As the controversy surrounding the suspensions continues to unfold, many Imo residents are left wondering what steps will be taken to address the issue. Will the governor step in to resolve the crisis, or will the standoff continue, leaving the state’s political system in a state of limbo? For now, the future of Imo State’s democracy hangs in the balance, as citizens demand justice and proper representation in their government.

The situation serves as a stark reminder of the importance of upholding democratic values and ensuring that elected officials are held to the highest standards of integrity and accountability. Only time will tell if the leadership of the Imo State House of Assembly will be held accountable for their actions or if this issue will fade into the background, allowing the undemocratic practices to continue unchecked.
