The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has begun its 2025 Management Retreat in Owerri, Imo State, with a focus on “Workforce to Workspace: Redesigning Management in a Digital Era, Addressing Workplace Culture and Technological Transformation” .
The event features discussions on various topics, including the challenges faced by medical practitioners in Nigeria, which has led to many doctors and nurses leaving the country. According to Dr. Lady Justina Ogini, Provost of Eziala College of Nursing and Sciences, Okwudo Njaba LGA, the unconducive work environment is a major factor contributing to this brain drain.
Fielding questions from news men, the Provost revealed that the College has five departments and it's a conglomerate of instructions of schools ranging from Nursing, Midwifery and Post graduating Midwifery . The only school in Imo State that have post basic accident, emergency and mental health Nursing.
Dr. Lady Justina Ogini, the Provost of Eziala College of Nursing and Sciences, attributed the school’s achievements to the support of its proprietor, His Royal Majesty Eze Christ Igbojekwe. Despite being a relatively new institution, established only five years ago, the college has made significant strides in providing quality education in nursing and midwifery. Ogini expressed gratitude to Eze Igbojekwe for his commitment to the institution, noting that his efforts have been instrumental in the college’s success.
Dr. Lady Ogini, the Provost of Eziala College of Nursing and Sciences, has had a remarkable career, marked by numerous achievements and contributions to the nursing community in Imo State.
During her tenure as NA Chairman in Imo State, she embarked on various exploratory initiatives, leveraging her position to drive positive change. Additionally, she served as NLC Treasurer and was an active member of the Joint Peace Council of Imo State .
One of her notable accomplishments was securing 200 plots of land for nurses in Imo State, dubbed the “Retire to Your Own Home” initiative. This project, which is still ongoing, demonstrates her commitment to improving the welfare and quality of life for nurses in the state.
Her leadership and dedication to the nursing community have undoubtedly left a lasting impact on Imo State.
