The senior officer of the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS) Deputy Commander General (DCG) – Prof Edwin Opara has strongly advocated for effective partnership of the Nigeria Forest Security Service , Traditional rulers and other security agencies with a view to end insecurity in Nigeria and South East in particular.
Speaking to newsmen in owerri the Imo State capital, the DCG- Prof. Edwin Opara emphasized the role of the traditional rulers in NFSS and in their various communities for results oriented operations of the Nigeria Forest Security Service across the states in the federation and in various communities. According to the DCG – Prof. Edwin Opara he said, ” The traditional rulers are the chief security of their respective autonomous communities and directly closest to the various forest across the nation. No doubt, the neglect of the traditional rulers in the issue of security in Nigeria will continue to make the fight against terrorism and insecurity impossible”.
Furthermore, DCG – prof Opara maintained that the only solution to insecurity in Nigeria is effective partnership with the traditional rulers across various communities. Hence it will guarantee an end to insecurity in our societies andNigeria at large.
In another development, DCG- prof Edwin Opara called on State governments and traditional rulers to ensure the recruitment of youths into the Nigeria Forest Security Service, who will join the fight against criminalities in various forest’s across the nation. Again, according to DCG prof Opara he said, ” The State government should support the traditional rulers in recruiting and selecting youths from various communities to join the Nigeria Forest Security Service, who will be trained and equipped for the protection of our forests areas”.
Interestingly, DCG- prof. Edwin Opara pointed out that the expected signing of the Nigeria Forest Security Service into law and the effective partnership of the traditional rulers will rapidly reduce the high rate of insecurity across the nation.
” With good security networks and partnership with NFSS across the 774 local government areas in Nigeria,the challenges of killings and kidnappings will certainly reduced. This no doubt, will restore the confidence of Nigerians and ensure effective security of lives and property. And also improve our economy and international relations “- DCG – prof Edwin Opara said.
