The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), has declared that the Bola Tinubu administration will preserve the independence of Nigeria’s anti-graft agencies in their ongoing fight against corruption.
Fagbemi assured that bodies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) would continue to operate without political influence or interference. He emphasized that the credibility of the nation’s anti-corruption drive rests on the ability of these institutions to act impartially, regardless of whose interests are at stake.
The Minister further warned that the government would not hesitate to act against any public official or agency found engaging in corrupt practices, stressing that no one would be shielded from investigation. He urged Nigerians, legal professionals, and civil society groups to partner with the government by providing credible information that could aid in exposing corruption.
Fagbemi also highlighted ongoing justice sector reforms aimed at strengthening institutions, promoting the rule of law, and ensuring consistent enforcement of anti-corruption measures across federal and state levels.
His remarks come amid growing calls for greater transparency and fairness in Nigeria’s anti-graft war, as citizens demand stronger safeguards against selective prosecution and political manipulation.
