Governor Umar Namadi on Tuesday commissioned an agricultural equipment assembly plant at the Aminu Kano Triangle, describing it as a major step in his administration’s plan to modernize farming and improve food security across the state.

The facility is set up to assemble key agricultural machinery, including tractors, harvesters, and other tools, making them more accessible and affordable to local farmers. Speaking during the inspection, Governor Namadi said the project is part of a broader effort by the government to support rural communities, reduce dependence on food imports, and raise agricultural productivity.

He explained that the plant would help cut the costs and delays involved in importing equipment, while also creating jobs and encouraging the use of improved farming technology. The governor noted that mechanization is essential for improving efficiency in agriculture, especially for smallholder farmers.

State officials said the assembly plant would serve not only Jigawa but also neighboring states, becoming a key location for distributing modern farming tools. It is also expected to support the development of local technical skills through planned training programs for young people and technicians.

Several stakeholders welcomed the development, saying it could help strengthen the agricultural sector and attract investment to the region. They added that improving access to modern equipment would increase yields and make farming more reliable, especially as weather patterns continue to change.

Governor Namadi said his administration would continue to support practical projects aimed at improving agriculture, providing farmers with better tools and inputs, and encouraging more people to see farming as a viable business. He also mentioned that discussions are ongoing with private investors and federal partners to expand the plant’s operations in the future.

The project is one of several efforts by the state government to improve agricultural output and support long-term food supply in the region.
