The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed November 20, 2025 for the delivery of judgment in the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, who is facing terrorism related charges filed by the Federal Government.

Justice Binta Nyako announced the date on Friday after both the prosecution and the defence presented their final arguments. The case, which has drawn national and international attention, marks an important stage in the legal battle between Kanu and the Nigerian state.

Nnamdi Kanu was rearrested in 2021 after leaving the country in 2017 while on bail. Since his return, he has been held by the Department of State Services, DSS, and has faced several charges including terrorism, incitement, and unlawful broadcasting.

During the proceedings, Kanu’s legal team asked the court to dismiss the charges, saying his arrest and return to Nigeria violated international law and his rights under the constitution. The prosecution, however, said the government had provided enough evidence linking him to acts that threaten national security and peace.

Observers say the coming judgment could affect political and security situations in the South East region where Kanu has many supporters. Security agencies are said to be preparing to keep order ahead of the court’s decision.

The case remains one of the most debated in recent Nigerian judicial history, raising questions about self determination, fair trial, and the balance between security and citizens rights.
