In a decisive move to improve healthcare services across Akwa Ibom State, Governor Umo Eno has ordered the immediate recall of medical doctors posted to non-health ministries and parastatals back to healthcare facilities where they are most needed.
The directive is aimed at addressing the shortage of doctors in hospitals and primary healthcare centres, ensuring that residents receive better and more timely medical attention. The governor emphasized that deploying trained doctors outside the health sector undermines effective service delivery and the doctors professional development.
This initiative forms part of the state government broader commitment to revamping the health sector, following the declaration of a state of emergency in healthcare. By returning doctors to frontline medical duties, the administration seeks to boost manpower, improve patient care and strengthen public confidence in the state health system.
Stakeholders have welcomed the decision as a positive and people-centred step, reflecting the government resolve to prioritize the well-being of Akwa Ibom citizens.
