Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has alleged that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is plotting to destabilise Bauchi State, accusing him of making statements and taking actions that suggest an intention to incite unrest.
The governor made the allegation during a public engagement, describing the situation as part of a wider political campaign aimed at undermining his administration. He claimed that influential figures within the federal government are targeting him because of his political position and refusal to align with the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Mohammed accused Wike of using his influence within the federal system to intimidate opposition leaders and exert pressure on states that are not politically aligned with the centre. He alleged that federal institutions are being manipulated to harass officials in his government and damage his personal and political reputation.
The Bauchi governor also criticised the political environment around President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, claiming the president is being misled by individuals he described as irresponsible and self-serving. According to him, these actors are deepening political divisions and creating unnecessary tension across the country.
Addressing allegations linking him or members of his family to criminal activities or insecurity, Mohammed firmly denied the claims. He maintained that Bauchi State remains relatively peaceful and that the accusations are part of a deliberate smear campaign designed to weaken his government and distract from governance.
He warned that attempts to intimidate or destabilise opposition-led states pose a serious threat to democracy and national unity. Mohammed urged the president to ensure that federal power is exercised fairly and not used to persecute political opponents.
The allegations have further intensified political tensions between opposition governors and the federal government, while also highlighting ongoing internal divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party. As of the time of this report, neither the FCT minister nor the Presidency has issued an official response to the claims.
