Senator Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has bluntly told Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, that he does not have the power or authority to stop his return to the Senate.
The senator, who represents Abia North Senatorial District, dismissed suggestions that the governor could influence or determine the outcome of the next senatorial election, describing such claims as baseless and misleading. Kalu insisted that electoral power belongs solely to the people, not to any sitting governor.
According to him, no individual, regardless of office, can impose candidates on the electorate or truncate the democratic process. He stressed that his political future rests in the hands of voters in Abia North, whom he said would judge him based on performance and service.
Kalu further warned against what he described as political intimidation and undue interference, stating that attempts to sideline opponents undermine democracy. He maintained that the constitution does not grant governors the authority to decide who wins elections.
The former Abia State governor expressed confidence in his grassroots support across the senatorial district, adding that he remains focused on delivering results rather than engaging in political distractions.
As of the time of filing this report, Governor Alex Otti has not reacted publicly to the senator’s remarks.
The comments highlight intensifying political rivalry in Abia State as early maneuvering begins ahead of future electoral contests.
