Bauchi ADC Plunged Into Leadership Crisis as Rival Factions Battle for Control

The Bauchi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is currently engulfed in a deep leadership crisis, with rival factions laying claim to the control and direction of the party.

What began as internal disagreements has now escalated into a full-blown power struggle, exposing sharp divisions among key stakeholders and threatening the party’s stability in the state.

At the center of the controversy is the suspension of the State Chairman, Mallam Hassan Haruna. A faction within the party announced his removal, accusing him of misconduct, anti-party activities, and actions allegedly capable of weakening the party’s structure. According to the group, Haruna failed to unite members and was involved in recognizing parallel executives at the local government level—moves they argue contravene the party’s constitution.

Following the announcement of his suspension, the faction named the Deputy Chairman, Mahmood Hassan Tabla, as Acting State Chairman. They maintain that their actions were taken in line with the party’s internal disciplinary procedures and insist that the leadership change was necessary to restore order and credibility within the Bauchi chapter of the ADC.

However, Haruna has strongly rejected the claims against him, describing the suspension as unconstitutional and politically motivated. He insists that he remains the legitimate State Chairman and accuses certain members of attempting to destabilize the party for personal or external interests.

His supporters argue that due process was not followed and that the alleged suspension lacks legal backing under the party’s constitution.
The unfolding crisis has created uncertainty within the party’s ranks, with members reportedly divided over which faction to recognize.

Political observers warn that if not resolved promptly, the dispute could weaken the ADC’s grassroots mobilization and electoral preparedness in Bauchi State.
As internal tensions persist, the Bauchi ADC faces a critical test of unity and leadership.

The outcome of this crisis may not only determine the party’s immediate stability in the state but could also shape its prospects ahead of future elections.
