The Imo State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Young Workers Representative, Rtn. Comr. Eric Jnr. Chima Igbojekwe, has congratulated Comrade Kelechi Ugo on his emergence as the Chairman of the Association of Imo State Based Journalists (AIBJ).
Igbojekwe, in a congratulatory message, described the emergence of Ugo as a significant development for journalism practice in Imo State, expressing confidence that the new leadership would bring fresh ideas, commitment and professionalism to the affairs of the association.
He noted that journalism remains a critical pillar of democracy and good governance, stressing that journalists have a responsibility to provide the public with accurate, balanced and credible information while holding public institutions and individuals accountable.
According to him, the media occupies a strategic position in promoting peace, development and social cohesion, particularly at a time when society requires responsible reporting capable of bridging differences and encouraging constructive engagement among stakeholders.
Igbojekwe commended the members of the Association of Imo State Based Journalists for finding Ugo worthy of their confidence, describing the new chairman as a dedicated media practitioner whose commitment to journalism and public service would, in his view, contribute positively to the growth of the association.
He urged the new AIBJ leadership to prioritize the welfare and professional development of its members, while strengthening unity and cooperation among journalists practising across the State.
The NULGE Young Workers Representative further advised the association to maintain a high standard of professional ethics, urging members to always verify information before publication and avoid sensationalism capable of causing unnecessary tension within communities.
He said the credibility of the media depends largely on the integrity of its practitioners, adding that journalists must remain committed to truth, fairness, objectivity and responsible journalism in the discharge of their duties.
Igbojekwe also called on relevant government institutions, corporate organizations, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders in Imo State to support the new AIBJ administration in its efforts to promote quality journalism and strengthen the relationship between the media and the public.
He expressed optimism that the leadership of Comrade Kelechi Ugo would create an atmosphere where journalists could exchange ideas, improve their professional capacity and contribute meaningfully to the development of Imo State.
While wishing the new chairman a successful tenure, Igbojekwe urged him to see his election not merely as an achievement but as a call to greater service and responsibility.
He prayed for wisdom, good health and the necessary support for Ugo to succeed in his new position, assuring him of his goodwill and support as he assumes the leadership of the Association of Imo State Based Journalists.
In his words, the emergence of Ugo should be seen as an opportunity to strengthen the voice of journalists in the state and ensure that the profession continues to serve as an instrument for accountability, development and the promotion of peaceful coexistence.
He therefore congratulated Comrade Kelechi Ugo once again, wishing him and members of the new AIBJ executive a productive and successful tenure in office.
