Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has challenged President Bola Tinubu to release the long-withheld forensic audit report of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), claiming it contains incriminating findings against former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and his wife.
In a televised interview, Wike alleged that Amaechi’s wife received N4 billion monthly from the NDDC for a dubious women empowerment programme in the Niger Delta — a staggering N48 billion annually. He argued that the funds were funneled through a company with no credible business background.
“She is not an industrialist. How did she come to receive N4 billion every month? Mr. President should release the audit report. If my claims are not in that report, I will resign as FCT Minister,” Wike declared.
Wike accused former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, of suppressing the audit findings to protect top officials. “Malami killed the report. He deliberately buried it to shield those involved. Nigerians deserve to see the truth,” he added.
The forensic audit, commissioned during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, aimed to expose systemic corruption and abandoned projects within the NDDC. Despite being completed, the report has never been published, raising concerns over political interference.
Wike also criticized Amaechi’s academic record and dismissed his claim that a senator gifted him a Rolls-Royce. He alleged the luxury car came from a contractor benefiting from underperformed projects in Rivers State.
The minister’s explosive comments have reignited national calls for transparency and accountability in the management of public funds, particularly in the oil-rich Niger Delta.
