Four people were injured on Monday morning when a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)-laden tanker collided with an empty fuel tanker along the busy Zaria-Kaduna Expressway, causing a major traffic disruption and raising concerns over road safety in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred at about 9:30 a.m. near the outskirts of Kaduna. The LPG tanker, reportedly travelling at high speed, veered into the lane of the oncoming fuel tanker, leading to a head-on collision. The impact left both vehicles badly damaged, with debris scattered across the highway.
Emergency responders, including personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency, arrived promptly at the scene. The injured victims, whose identities have not yet been released, were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. No fatalities were reported.
The collision also sparked fears of a possible fire or explosion due to the highly flammable nature of the LPG cargo. However, swift action by firefighters prevented any secondary disaster, as they worked to safely contain and transfer the gas to another tanker.
Motorists experienced long delays as traffic was diverted to alternative routes. Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution, especially when sharing the road with heavy-duty vehicles.
Officials are currently investigating the cause of the crash, with preliminary reports suggesting speeding and possible brake failure as contributing factors.
