In recognition of his representation and contributions to community development, the people of Umuchoko Chokoneze Autonomous Community in Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State have conferred a chieftaincy title on Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi, who represents the Owerri Senatorial Zone.
The chieftaincy title, Ogbuhorouzo I of Umuchoko Chokoneze, was conferred on the Senator by the traditional ruler of the community, His Royal Highness Eze Bethrand Chikwendu Olumba, Cheze III of Umuchoko, during his Ezeship coronation ceremony held on Friday at the Community Primary School Field, Chokoneze.

Speaking at the event, Eze Olumba said the Senator was considered worthy of the title based on his legislative performance and contributions to development within the senatorial district.
The monarch referenced Senator Onyewuchi’s interventions across Owerri Senatorial District, including infrastructure support, skills acquisition programmes in digital technology and artisanship, empowerment of traders, and job creation initiatives, which he said have benefited many residents.
Eze Olumba added that the title reflects the community’s recognition of the Senator’s public service, while offering prayers for continued success in his future endeavours.
In his response, Senator Onyewuchi thanked the traditional ruler and the people of Umuchoko Chokoneze for the honour and said he values the recognition.
He stated that he would continue to work with community leaders and stakeholders on issues relating to development, peace, and security.
The Senator also congratulated Eze Bethrand Chikwendu Olumba on his coronation, describing it as an important event for the community.
Following the ceremony, Senator Onyewuchi, accompanied by his entourage, attended the traditional marriage ceremony of the daughter of former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Professor Placid Njoku, held at Umukpe, Amuri, Amaimo in Ikeduru Local Government Area.
