A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State and President of the Southwest Professional Forum, Chief Segun Ajibulu, has praised the newly enacted tax reform laws, describing them as progressive measures aimed at protecting poor and vulnerable Nigerians.

Ajibulu said the reforms show the determination of the APC-led federal government to establish a fair and efficient tax system that balances social responsibility with improved revenue generation.

He explained that the laws are structured to reduce pressure on low-income earners and small businesses while ensuring that wealthy individuals and large corporations contribute appropriately to national development.

Speaking with journalists in Ado-Ekiti, the APC leader dismissed fears that the reforms would worsen the economic challenges facing ordinary Nigerians. According to him, the new tax regime is focused on expanding the tax base, blocking revenue leakages, and strengthening compliance rather than imposing additional burdens on the poor.

The purpose of these reforms is to create a sustainable framework that supports economic growth and development,” Ajibulu said. “When properly implemented, the reforms will provide government with the resources required to invest in key sectors such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, and social support programmes.”

He added that improved revenue collection would enable government to fund poverty-alleviation initiatives, create employment opportunities, and enhance the quality of public services across the country.

Ajibulu urged Nigerians to support the reforms and allow time for their full implementation, noting that lasting economic progress requires consistent policies and cooperation among all stakeholders.

He also encouraged professionals, civil society organisations, and other interest groups to engage constructively with government agencies to promote transparency and accountability.

He concluded by stating that the APC remains committed to policies that promote inclusive economic growth, stability, and long-term national development.
