The Nigerian Nurses Forum (NNF) has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), demanding justice over the alleged assault of one of its members during an immunisation exercise in Oyo State.

The forum stated that the nurse was carrying out official duties as part of a government-approved immunisation campaign aimed at protecting public health. The alleged assault reportedly occurred in the course of the assignment, an action the forum described as unacceptable and a violation of the nurse’s rights.

In its petition, the Nigerian Nurses Forum condemned the incident and called on the Nigeria Police Force to intervene. The forum requested a prompt and impartial investigation into the matter and urged that those responsible be identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The forum also raised concerns about the safety of nurses and other healthcare workers, particularly those involved in community-based health programmes such as immunisation exercises. It warned that attacks on health workers could affect the delivery of essential healthcare services and discourage participation in public health initiatives.

In addition, the NNF appealed to relevant authorities to strengthen security measures for health workers engaged in official assignments. It stressed the need to ensure a safe working environment for nurses and other frontline personnel.

The Nigerian Nurses Forum stated that it would continue to pursue justice for its assaulted colleague and advocate for the protection and welfare of nurses across the country.
