Imo State Consumer Protection Council Cpc has celebrated the World Consumer’s right day today , in order to create awareness about consumer rights in the digital age.
The 2024 event which took place at the CPC premises at New Owerri witnessed the presence of dignitaries and showcased lecture series by the former commissioner for digital and E- economy in Imo state Dr.C.Amadi , Dr Henry Uzokwe and other resource persons.
In her remarks , the DG,Hon. Mrs Obioma Okafor unequivocally stated that, this year 2024 world Consumer’s right day is a unique event, she disclosed that , the celebration centers on the use of Artificial Intelligence in customer service and it’s accruing implications on the consumers rights, Hon. Okafor seized the platform to educate the gathering on the essence of consumers knowing their rights in the modern global world., She assured Imo citizens of Governor Hope Uzodinma”s commitment in making sure standardized products are sold for them in the various markets, she reiterated that aggrieved individuals who has issues relating to their goods and products will have their problems properly addressed.
Earlier in his lecture Dr .Amadi, x-rayed on the roles of manufacturers ,and Consumers, while stressing on the need for consumers to know their rights in the digital age . he pinpointed on the use of AI in the developed economy compared to our own Nigeria economy citing it’s weak points if put into practice in a nation’s economy.
Also in his lecture , another resource person Dr. Henry Uzokwe , spoke on the role of AI in Consumer’s rights and service delivery
