The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially released the names of members appointed to serve on its Ward and Local Government Area (LGA) Congress Screening Committees, marking a significant step in the party’s preparations for its upcoming grassroots congresses across Nigeria.

In a statement issued by the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, the APC disclosed that the committees will oversee the screening of aspirants seeking elective party positions at the ward and local government levels. The exercise is part of a broader internal democratic process designed to strengthen the party’s structure from the grassroots upward.

Beyond the screening committees, the party also constituted Ward and LGA Screening Appeals Committees. These bodies are mandated to review petitions and appeals from aspirants who may be dissatisfied with the outcome of the screening process. Additionally, Congress Committees and Congress Appeals Committees were named to supervise the conduct of the congresses and address any disputes arising from them.

Party officials described the release of the committee lists as a critical procedural milestone, emphasizing the APC’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and due process. The ward and LGA congresses are expected to lay the foundation for subsequent state and zonal congresses, culminating in the party’s National Convention later in the year.

Political observers note that grassroots congresses often play a decisive role in shaping party leadership structures and influencing internal power dynamics. As such, the composition and credibility of the screening and appeals committees are considered vital to ensuring a smooth and credible exercise.

With the announcement now public, attention shifts to the conduct of the congresses themselves, as party members across the country prepare to participate in what is expected to be a closely watched internal electoral process.
