A catastrophic vehicular collision occurred at IMSU Junction in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria, on the evening of Saturday, May 18, 2024, resulting in the tragic deaths of 21 people and causing severe injuries to numerous others. Preliminary investigations suggest that excessive speed combined with brake failure contributed to the accident. Reports indicate that a large trailer, traveling at high speed from the Okigwe Road direction, experienced brake failure, causing the driver to lose control and plow into several commercial buses loading passengers at IMSU Junction, leading to the high number of casualties.
