In a significant move aimed at addressing the representation needs of his constituents, Hon. Barr Harrison Anozie Nwadike, the member representing Isu/Njaba/Nkwerre/Nwangele Federal Constituency, introduced a Constitutional Alteration Bill on Thursday, July 12th. This bill seeks to create an additional federal constituency from the current Isu/Njaba/Nkwerre/Nwangele constituency.

During the legislative session, Hon. Nwadike emphasized the importance of adequate representation for the rapidly growing population within his constituency. He argued that the creation of a new federal constituency would ensure more effective governance, equitable distribution of resources, and enhanced political participation for the people in the affected areas.

“The current Isu/Njaba/Nkwerre/Nwangele constituency is one of the most densely populated in the region,” Hon. Nwadike stated. “The creation of an additional federal constituency will not only bring government closer to the people but also ensure that their voices are adequately heard in the national assembly.”

Hon. Nwadike’s proposal is seen as a response to longstanding calls from community leaders and residents who have expressed concerns over the challenges of managing such a large and diverse constituency. The bill, if passed, would lead to a more balanced and manageable representation, potentially fostering greater development and addressing local issues more efficiently.

The Constitutional Alteration Bill will now undergo further scrutiny and debate in the House of Representatives. It will require the support of a two-thirds majority of the National Assembly and the approval of at least two-thirds of the 36 State Houses of Assembly before it can be enacted.

Supporters of the bill argue that it represents a critical step towards strengthening Nigeria’s democracy and enhancing the responsiveness of elected officials to the needs of their constituents. Critics, however, caution that the creation of new constituencies must be approached with careful consideration to ensure it does not lead to unnecessary political and administrative complications.

As the bill progresses through the legislative process, all eyes will be on Hon. Nwadike and his efforts to garner the necessary support to achieve this constitutional change. The outcome will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the political landscape of Isu/Njaba/Nkwerre/Nwangele and the broader region.

For the residents of these communities, the potential creation of a new federal constituency represents hope for better representation and a more direct line to the resources and services they need.
