A devastating car crash on Saturday claimed the life of Superintendent of Police (SP) Mustapha Garba, a serving officer with the Bauchi State Police Command, as he was on his way to his own wedding ceremony.
The tragic incident occurred along the Bargan Tsamiya road in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State. SP Garba was travelling from Gumau to Magaman-Gumau, where his wedding fatiha was scheduled to take place, when the vehicle he was in lost control.
According to the Bauchi State Police Command, SP Garba was accompanied by three friends in a Mercedes Benz when their vehicle veered off its lane and collided head-on with an oncoming Opel Vectra. The impact of the collision was severe, leaving multiple casualties.
Acting swiftly on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Sani-Omolori, officers from the Toro Division were dispatched to the scene and evacuated the victims to Toro General Hospital.
Sadly, upon arrival at the hospital, a medical doctor confirmed the deaths of SP Mustapha Garba and two of his companions. The fourth occupant of the vehicle sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment.
The remains of the deceased have been released to their families and buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
In a statement, the Commissioner of Police expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the victims. He described SP Garba as a disciplined and committed officer whose untimely death is a profound loss to the police force and the community.
“The Command is in mourning. SP Mustapha Garba was on his way to celebrate a new chapter in life, and this tragic event has left us heartbroken,” CP Sani-Omolori said. “We pray that God grants the families the strength to bear this painful loss.”
The accident has left the Toro community and the Bauchi State Police Command in deep shock, turning what was meant to be a joyous day into one of sorrow and mourning.
