Ali Shamkhani, a top adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, has been killed in an Israeli airstrike on June 13, 2025. The strike, part of a major operation by Israel called “Operation Rising Lion,” targeted key military and government leaders in Iran.
Shamkhani was a powerful figure in Iran’s national security and foreign policy, known for helping shape Iran’s military strategies in the region. Several other top Iranian commanders were also killed in the attack, making it one of the deadliest blows to Iran’s leadership in years.
In response, Iran launched missiles and drones at Israeli cities. Although many were intercepted, at least nine Israeli civilians were killed. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu warned that no one involved in terrorism is safe, hinting at more strikes to come.
Iran has promised revenge, and the situation has sparked global concern. World leaders are calling for calm as fears grow of a larger regional war.
Meanwhile, oil prices have jumped and nuclear talks between Iran and the U.S. have been suspended.
This marks a major turning point in the long-running conflict between Israel and Iran.
