by admin

Former Governor of Abia State and Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has paid a courtesy visit to the newly appointed Brazilian Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Carlos Garcete, at the Brazilian Embassy in Abuja. The visit marks an important step in strengthening diplomatic and economic cooperation between Nigeria and Brazil.

During the meeting, Dr. Kalu and Ambassador Garcete discussed ways to deepen bilateral relations, particularly in strategic sectors such as agribusiness and aviation. Both countries share similar development goals, and the conversation focused on how Nigeria can benefit from Brazil’s globally recognized expertise in agriculture, food processing, and technology.

Dr. Kalu emphasized that closer cooperation in agriculture would help improve Nigeria’s food security, create jobs, and support rural development. He noted that Brazil’s agricultural success story offers valuable lessons that can be adapted to Nigeria’s needs, especially in mechanization, training, and value-chain development.

On aviation, the two leaders explored the possibility of establishing direct air links between Nigeria and Brazil. This would enhance trade, tourism, and people-to-people connections between the two countries, making it easier for business leaders, students, and tourists to travel.

The visit also served as an opportunity for Dr. Kalu to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his diplomatic efforts in building a strong and forward-looking relationship with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. He acknowledged the growing cooperation between both leaders as a positive sign for the future of Nigeria-Brazil relations.

Ambassador Garcete, who assumed office recently, expressed his readiness to work closely with Nigerian stakeholders to promote mutual interests and develop long-term partnerships in various sectors, including trade, culture, energy, and education.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to further strengthen ties between the two nations, with follow-up actions expected in the coming months. Dr. Kalu described the engagement as promising and expressed optimism about the opportunities it will create for both countries.

The courtesy visit is part of broader efforts to deepen South-South cooperation and open new channels for economic development between Africa and Latin America.
