The Students Union Government President of the University of Abuja has raised serious allegations following a violent confrontation linked to an ongoing land dispute between the institution and external forces. According to his account, he and several students were physically assaulted during a sudden early morning demolition carried out by suspected thugs reportedly accompanied by security operatives.

The SUG President alleges that the attackers not only brutalized students but also targeted him directly. He claims he was slapped, beaten, and stripped when he attempted to question the forceful demolition of student owned shops and structures on the mini campus. The incident, he said, occurred without prior notice from the university administration or any government agency, leaving many students shocked and vulnerable.

Students described the atmosphere as chaotic and terrifying, with thugs allegedly destroying kiosks, scattering goods, and attacking anyone who tried to intervene. Phones were reportedly seized and smashed, and several students sustained injuries while attempting to flee the violence. The SUG leadership condemned the invasion, insisting that such actions could never be justified without formal communication or a transparent resolution process involving all stakeholders.

The confrontation is tied to a broader and increasingly tense dispute over the universitys land allocation. Recent actions by authorities to reclaim parts of the institutions land have sparked outrage among students, staff, and alumni, who argue that the move threatens campus development and the safety of the university community.

In response to the assault and demolition, the SUG is calling for an immediate investigation, accountability for the perpetrators, and firm assurances that students rights and properties will be protected. They also urge government representatives and the university management to adopt dialogue rather than force in addressing land related concerns.

The incident has heightened fears about growing tensions between the university community and external actors seeking control over disputed land. Students say they will continue demanding justice until the full truth behind the attack is uncovered and those responsible are held to account.
