A police officer has been tragically killed after gunmen, reportedly fleeing from an earlier crime scene, opened fire along the Ugbowo–Lagos Road near the Ekosodin junction in Edo State.
The attack occurred on Thursday when the armed men, attempting to escape through the busy corridor, began shooting indiscriminately. In the chaos, the officer—who was carrying out routine duties in the area—was struck by a bullet and died on the spot.
Witnesses said the sudden burst of gunfire caused widespread panic as commuters and pedestrians scrambled for safety. The assailants were said to have sped off immediately after the shooting, leaving the community in shock.
Security teams were quickly deployed to the scene, and an investigation has been launched to trace and apprehend the fleeing attackers. As of press time, police authorities have not released an official statement, but frontline officers confirmed that the manhunt is ongoing.
