Dangote Refinery Boosts Hope for Energy Security with Massive Daily Fuel Supply Capacity

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reiterated its capacity to supply Nigeria with refined petroleum products, announcing that it can deliver 75 million litres of petrol, 25 million litres of diesel and 20 million litres of aviation fuel daily. The development has renewed optimism over Nigeria’s quest for self-sufficiency in fuel production and
improved energy security.

The refinery stated that its petrol supply capacity exceeds Nigeria’s estimated daily consumption of about 50 million litres. This surplus is expected to help eliminate recurring fuel shortages, stabilise pump prices and significantly reduce the country’s dependence on imported petroleum products, which has historically placed pressure on foreign exchange reserves.

In addition, the refinery confirmed its ability to supply 25 million litres of diesel per day, well above the country’s estimated daily demand of approximately 14 million litres. The increased availability of diesel is expected to benefit key sectors of the economy, including transportation, manufacturing, construction and power generation.

Dangote Refinery also disclosed that it can produce up to 20 million litres of aviation fuel daily, compared to Nigeria’s estimated daily consumption of around four million litres. This excess capacity could position Nigeria as a regional hub for jet fuel supply, offering cost advantages to local airlines and supporting aviation activities across West Africa.

The company reaffirmed that its operations fully comply with the regulations of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority and that it remains committed to working closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure efficient distribution and market stability.

Industry analysts believe the refinery’s growing output represents a significant turning point for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

By expanding local refining capacity, the Dangote Refinery is expected to reduce fuel importation, conserve foreign exchange, support economic growth and strengthen Nigeria’s energy independence.
