President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a nine-member Presidential Taskforce on Petroleum Sector Reform and Value Optimisation as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s oil and gas industry and improve value from the nation’s energy resources.
The taskforce will be headed by Fola Adeola and will report directly to the President.
Members of the committee include Osagie Okunbor, Farouk Gumel, Adaeze Aguele and Ademola Adeyemi-Bero, alongside other professionals with extensive experience in the energy, finance and investment sectors.
Sources within the presidency say the taskforce will review the structure, performance and value potential of Nigeria’s petroleum assets and recommend strategies aimed at improving efficiency, transparency and revenue generation across the oil and gas value chain.
The initiative is part of the administration’s broader reform efforts in the petroleum sector following the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act, which was introduced to modernise the country’s oil and gas industry and attract more investment.
The committee is expected to submit its recommendations to the presidency after carrying out a comprehensive review of the sector.
