The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recorded a significant victory in Nigeria’s fight against illicit drug trafficking with the seizure of 4,959 kilograms of Canadian Loud cannabis valued at approximately ₦12.3 billion at the Apapa Port in Lagos.

The massive consignment, concealed inside a 40-foot container carrying vehicles, was intercepted after weeks of intelligence-led surveillance and a joint inspection involving security agencies.

The successful operation underscores the NDLEA’s growing capacity to detect and disrupt sophisticated international drug trafficking networks attempting to use Nigeria as a transit or destination point for illegal narcotics.

Beyond the port seizure, the agency also carried out other successful operations, including the arrest of suspects linked to cocaine trafficking and the dismantling of a syndicate allegedly involved in planting illicit drugs in unsuspecting travelers’ luggage.

The seizure is being hailed as another major step in protecting Nigerian communities from the harmful effects of illegal drugs while reinforcing the country’s commitment to combating transnational organized crime.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend all those connected to the shipment.
