The Publisher of The Horn Newspaper, Chief Bright Chimezie Njoku, has been honoured and inducted into the Owerri Legend Lions Club in recognition of his commitment to humanitarian service, philanthropy and community development.

The honour was one of the highlights of activities marking the commencement of the 2026/2027 Lions service year, during which the club also visited the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri, where cash gifts and other support items were presented to babies born on July 1, 2026.

Presenting the honour, the President of Owerri Legend Lions Club, Lion David Onyemauche Jacob, described Chief Njoku as a man whose life has been dedicated to serving humanity and helping the less privileged.

According to him, Chief Njoku has consistently demonstrated compassion through numerous charitable interventions, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he distributed food items and other relief materials to vulnerable members of society.

He noted that the publisher’s humanitarian activities earned him the respect of members of the club and informed the decision to induct him into Lions Clubs International.

Lion Onyemauche also traced the origin of Lions Clubs International, explaining that the global humanitarian organisation was founded on the simple idea of using personal resources to improve the lives of the less privileged.

He said the organisation has grown into one of the world’s largest humanitarian service bodies, with millions of members serving communities in more than 200 countries.

Also speaking, the Zonal Chairperson, Lion Engr. Ebis Eke, described Lions Clubs International as a movement built on compassion, selfless service and hope.

He expressed confidence that under the leadership of Lion Onyemauche, the Owerri Legend Lions Club would continue to expand its humanitarian activities across Imo State.

Eke appealed to Chief Njoku to partner with the club through The Horn Newspaper by giving greater publicity to its humanitarian activities and encouraging more people to embrace volunteer service.

Responding, Chief Bright Chimezie Njoku expressed appreciation to the club for the honour, describing his induction as a call to greater service.

He said no society can truly prosper if the privileged neglect the poor, stressing that service to humanity attracts divine reward.

“Whatever God has given to you, do not enjoy it alone. Always remember the poor and those who are in need,” he said.

Chief Njoku also shared personal experiences that strengthened his faith in the rewards of kindness and encouraged members of the club to remain committed to humanitarian service.

He pledged the support of The Horn Newspaper in publicising the activities of the Lions Club while promising to contribute to initiatives that improve the welfare of the less privileged.

As part of its humanitarian outreach to mark the beginning of the new Lions service year, the Owerri Legend Lions Club also visited the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri, to celebrate the first babies born on July 1, 2026.

The club officially recognised the newborns as the “Lions Babies of the Year” and presented cash gifts and other support items to their mothers, Mrs. Tasie Chika Bright from Abia State and Mrs. Enwerem Ugochi from Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State.

Receiving the delegation, the Director of Administration of FMC Owerri, Mrs. Chika Grace Enweozo, commended the club for its commitment to humanitarian service.

She said kindness is one of the greatest gifts anyone can offer, adding that simple acts of compassion restore hope, dignity and confidence to people facing life’s challenges.

Mrs. Enweozo said the hospital would continue to work with the Lions Club and praised its efforts to touch lives through community service.

The nursing mothers expressed gratitude to the Owerri Legend Lions Club for the support, describing the gesture as timely, thoughtful and encouraging.

The induction of Chief Bright Chimezie Njoku into Lions Clubs International and the presentation of gifts to the first babies born in the new Lions service year at FMC Owerri reflected the club’s continued commitment to serving humanity and improving lives.
