President Bola Tinubu has unveiled a new initiative tagged “Power Force”, aimed at training 5,000 young Nigerians while accelerating the nationwide deployment of smart electricity meters.
The programme is designed to boost youth employment and strengthen ongoing reforms in the power sector under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to the Presidency, the initiative will equip participants with practical technical skills in metering, installation, maintenance and smart energy systems.
It is also expected to create a new pool of skilled workers who can support the modernization of Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure.
A key focus of the programme is to expand access to smart meters across households and businesses, a move targeted at reducing estimated billing and improving transparency in electricity consumption.
Officials say the rollout will also help strengthen revenue collection and improve efficiency within the power distribution system.
The training component will run alongside the metering rollout, allowing young Nigerians to gain hands-on experience while contributing directly to the implementation process.
The Federal Government described the initiative as part of broader efforts to reform the power sector, attract investment and improve electricity supply across the country.
It added that the programme aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises job creation, infrastructure development and economic growth.
Authorities expressed optimism that the “Power Force” initiative will help reduce unemployment while accelerating Nigeria’s transition toward a more efficient and technology-driven power system.
Further details on enrollment and implementation are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
