IMO — The Akabo Ancient Kingdom in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State has elected Amb. Dr. Solomon Nwaiwu as the new President-General of the Town Union for a four-year term.
The election, which followed the completion of the tenure of the immediate past President-General, Sir Howells Ahamefula, drew indigenes of the kingdom from various parts of the country.
Mid into the election , the Traditional ruler of Akabo Ancient Kingdom, HRM Eze Barr. Evans Olileanyachukwu Njoku-Nwansi IV, expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conducts and urged all contestants to display the spirit of sportsmanship by accepting the outcome of the election as there are no winners or losers. He assured the newly elected executives of the support of the community, including the Eze’s cabinet, Women and Youth wings.
In his victory speech, Amb. Dr. Solomon Nwaiwu thanked the people of Akabo Ancient Kingdom for the confidence reposed in him and his team, pledging to prioritise peace, unity and sustainable development.
In his words “We are grateful for this mandate. With the prayers and support of our people, we will work to meet and exceed your expectations. Unity and peace remain central to development, and we will give due attention to all issues affecting the community,” he concluded
The Executive Chairman of the Ikeduru LGA, Rt. Hon. Justice Nzeh who was ably represented by the Deputy Leader and the Chief Whip of the Council, Hon. Dickson Ugochukwu and Hon. Stanley Ugo respectively, described the election as orderly and transparent, urging the community to support the new leadership both financially and morally. He also advised the new President-General to draw on the experience of past leaders when necessary.
The Secretary to the Local Government, Chief Bright Amaefula who is an indigene of the kingdom, commended the peaceful nature of the election. He also congratulated the newly elected town union leadership while urging community leaders to support and cooperate with them new helmsmen to make positive impacts.
Also speaking, the Head of Akabo Traditional Council Secretariart, High Chief George Opara charged the new town union leadership to work as a united team, noting that cooperation with the elders, relevant stakeholders and the Eze’s cabinet would be one of the keys to the success of the new administration.
The Councilor representing Akabo Ward in the Ikeduru Legislative Council, Hon. Uche Jehu, praised the community for conducting what he described as a free and credible election, and encouraged the new leadership to remain focused on their selfless service.
The immediate past President-General, Sir. Howells Ahamefula, thanked the community for its support during his tenure while commending the electoral committee for conducting a transparent election. He also noted that some planned projects could not be executed due to funding challenges. He however wish the new leadership success in their vision.
The Youth President, Mr. Okechukwu Onyenekwucha also expressed appreciation for the peaceful atmosphere during the election, describing it as one of the most orderly in the community’s history while pledging his continuous support to the new town union leadership.
Announcing the results, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Chief Sir. Amb. Jerry Opara attributed the smooth process to the cooperation among stakeholders, and called on community members to support the newly elected executives.
