President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken a sharp swipe at former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, accusing him of attempting to take control of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) amid its ongoing internal crisis.
Speaking on Thursday while hosting members of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors at the State House in Abuja, Tinubu linked the party’s leadership troubles to what he described as Atiku’s political approach. He suggested that the former vice-president has a tendency to dominate party structures in pursuit of his personal ambitions.
Although he did not go into specifics, Tinubu’s remark about “privatising” the ADC implies an attempt to turn the party into a personal political platform, rather than allowing it to operate as an independent and democratic institution.
The ADC has recently faced internal disputes over its leadership and direction, raising concerns about stability within the party. Tinubu’s comments appear to position these challenges as a consequence of external influence, particularly from powerful political figures seeking new platforms.
The development underscores the long-standing rivalry between Tinubu and Atiku and reflects the growing political tension as alliances begin to shift ahead of future elections in Nigeria.
