FUTO Student Attacked and Robbed by Suspected Motorcycle Riders Near Campus

by admin

A student of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) was attacked and severely injured on Sunday evening by a group of suspected motorcycle operators near the university premises.

The incident occurred while the student was on his way to purchase items from a nearby location. He was reportedly accosted by five Hausa-speaking men suspected to be commercial motorcyclists, commonly known as Okada riders. The assailants robbed the student of his cash and personal belongings before attempting to inflict further harm.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers fled the scene when a group of passers-by appeared, leaving the student unconscious and helpless. He was later rushed to a medical facility, where he is currently receiving treatment for his injuries.

This incident has stirred concern among residents and members of the university community, who say such attacks have become increasingly frequent in the area. Many attribute the rising insecurity to the activities of unidentified individuals posing as commercial riders.

There are growing calls for the Imo State Government and security agencies to address the situation urgently. Locals warn that continued inaction could embolden more criminal elements to target students and residents.

As of the time of this report, no official statement has been released by the university or state authorities, and no arrests have been made.
