The chairman of Labour Party (LP) in Imo State , Barr.Calistus Ihejiagwa had commended the 2024 Church Singing Competition for Owerri Federal constituency organized by Hon. Tochukwu Chinedum Okere.
In a chat with newsmen at Jehovah Jireh Anglican Church Trans Egbu Parish Owerri , after the grand finale of the event , which saw , St Mark’s Anglican Church Amakohia Clinching first position , Barr. Ihejiagwa expressed happiness on the turnout of events , in his words ” I am very happy today , choirs from various churches gathered here to praise God , thanks to Hon. Tochukwu Okere member representing Owerri Federal constituency , who made it possible , when the people rejoice , heaven rejoice ,” he expressed. He also applauded the participants for their effort .
Also speaking with newmen , the Host , Vicar , Archdeacon of Jehovah Jireh Anglican Church , Ven Emmanuel Ahumibe , showered praises on Hon .Okere , on the significance of the competition , he said there are so many ways to praise God , he reiterated that the Federal house member has decided to honour God through singing , he maintained that singing praises also serve as a way of evangelizing and preaching the word of God , he seized the platform to urge Christians to remain focused. not minding the economic hardship.
On the journey so far , the co-ordinator of the competition, who also doubles as chairman welfare /religious committee for the maiden 2024 event Ven. Obioma Chikeka , said the competition started since August 2023, he said “The journey started August last year, it held simultaneously in 3 locations in Owerri Municipal , Owerri North and Owerri West” he submitted.
Earlier in his speech, the member representing Owerri Federal Constituency, Hon.Okere announced, the consolation prizes of one hundred thousand naira each for participating churches, #500, 000 thousand naira for 3rd position, #750,000 2nd position and trophy, set of robe and 1million naira prize for the first position, he reiterated participants also stand a chance for pilgrimage trip to the holy Land .
Hon. Okere, also thanked Christian faithful for attending the event.
The event also showcased beehives of activities viz cutting of cake, and other side attractions.
