Guided by the firm and strategic direction of Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma, the Imo State Police Command has significantly ramped up its efforts to tackle criminal activities head-on. The latest crackdown has resulted in notable successes, with six suspects arrested for their involvement in kidnapping and armed robbery operations. These achievements stem from meticulously executed intelligence-gathering and in-depth investigations, culminating in the seizure of a cache of deadly weapons, including a locally crafted shotgun, a pump-action rifle, two live cartridges, and seven rounds of ammunition.
On August 21, 2024, at approximately 4:00 PM, the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, during a standard patrol within Owerri Municipal, apprehended a notorious armed robbery suspect, Nwauba Alex, a 25-year-old man from Ezza Local Government Area, Ebonyi State. The suspect was caught red-handed while robbing two civilians at gunpoint near Aladinma Primary School in Owerri. During the arrest, law enforcement officers seized a locally made pistol, two rounds of live ammunition, and torchlights from the suspect, ensuring the victims were unharmed and safely rescued.
Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the robbery and disclosed that he had acquired the firearm from a dealer in Ezza, Ebonyi State. In response, the police are intensifying efforts to track down and arrest the individuals responsible for the illegal production and sale of firearms, with the ultimate goal of bringing them to justice. The suspect is expected to be formally charged in court upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.
This successful operation highlights the Imo State Police Command’s steadfast commitment to eradicating criminal elements and safeguarding the well-being of all residents. The command remains dedicated to dismantling criminal networks and upholding law and order throughout the state.
