The Federal Government has commenced the distribution of ATM cards to millions of Nigerians as part of a national effort to provide direct financial support to vulnerable households through its ₦75,000 Conditional Cash Transfer Programme.

The initiative, implemented under the Renewed Hope Social Investment Programme, is designed to ease the financial burden on low-income families across the country. Through this scheme, each verified beneficiary will receive a one-time payment of ₦75,000, which will be deposited into accounts linked to ATM cards issued specifically for this purpose.

The distribution process is being carried out in phases across multiple states. In Zamfara State, Governor Dauda Lawal launched the initiative with over 279,000 beneficiaries already receiving their cards. The state aims to reach more than 448,000 recipients in total, making it one of the largest targets under the current phase. The governor described the effort as timely and necessary, given the economic hardship many families continue to face.

In Niger State, more than 50,000 cards have already been distributed, with another 19,000 slated for immediate rollout. The program targets around 180,000 households in the state. Officials there have noted that the cards will be activated once recipients complete the required identity verification, including submission of their Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) and National Identification Numbers (NIN).

Jigawa State has also joined the program, with approximately 23,000 households already identified for support. Each household is expected to receive between ₦25,000 and ₦75,000, depending on their assessed level of vulnerability. State officials have praised the federal intervention as a critical lifeline for those most affected by economic instability.

According to sources at the National Social Safety-Net Coordinating Office (NASSCO), the ATM card distribution method ensures that the funds reach the right people while allowing beneficiaries to withdraw or spend the money at their convenience. It also promotes accountability and minimizes the risk of fund mismanagement.

The cash transfer is part of a broader national strategy to address poverty and economic shocks affecting the most vulnerable Nigerians. With inflation, high unemployment, and reduced purchasing power affecting millions, the government has stated its commitment to scaling up social protection programs.

Eligible beneficiaries are being notified through text messages and community announcements. Once notified, they are required to report to designated collection points to complete their verification and collect their ATM cards. The government is working closely with banks, community leaders, and local government officials to ensure the process is transparent and inclusive.

As the program expands, more states are expected to begin distribution in the coming weeks. The government has assured the public that this is only the first step in a sustained effort to reduce poverty, empower communities, and build an inclusive social safety net for Nigeria’s most vulnerable populations.
