The Federal High Court has dismissed as entirely false the viral claim alleging that Justice James Omotosho survived an assassination attempt in the early hours of Saturday. The report, which was widely circulated online by a blogger, claimed that the judge who recently delivered judgment in a high profile case involving Nnamdi Kanu was attacked and rushed to a hospital by security operatives.
In a statement issued by the Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court, Sulaiman Hassan, the court noted that no such incident occurred. He described the circulating report as fabricated, misleading, and capable of causing unnecessary public tension. He explained that Justice Omotosho was neither attacked nor hospitalized, and that court officials were concerned about how quickly the false story spread across social media.
Hassan warned that the publication was a reckless attempt to undermine public trust in the judiciary and possibly intimidate judicial officers. He added that spreading unverified claims about attacks on judges poses a serious risk to both individual safety and the stability of the justice system.
The Federal High Court has called on security agencies and relevant regulators to investigate the source of the misinformation. It also urged the public to verify sensitive reports from official sources before sharing them.
The court stated that the situation highlights growing concern over the rising spread of false information targeting public institutions, especially in cases that attract significant national interest.
